As many of you know, one of my favourite makeup items to collect is palettes so there was no surprise why I chose to add the Violet Voss Holy Grail palette to my collection 3 months ago.
Don't get me wrong, the shades are stunning and definitely up my street but I can't help feel that this palette isn't that great. As you can see from my swatches above, as awful as they may be, you can definitely see discrepancies between them. Some of the matte shades are patchy, especially in the top and bottom row and some of the shimmery foiled finishes just don't live up to the standard I am normally used to, personally I think MUG pigmentation is MUCH better and it is a fraction of the price. Whilst this palette is great, I never reach for it. I have a lot of similar shadows in the ABH modern renaissance palette but saying that I never reach for that palette either.
The packaging is horrendous, it is so cheaply made and gets dirty SO easily. The writing on the palette also fades extremely easily. I think over A/W I will make a conscious effort to get more use out of it as it was around £40.
I honestly would not recommend this palette unless you have nothing similar in your collection, however there is no denying that it is extremely photogenic. As far as I am aware this sold out almost instantly and is occasionally restocked, but even when it is restocked it sells out within the hour. I know that these are being sold on depot but for a higher markup.
Did you get this palette?
It's such a shame that this palette is a let down :( The colors truly are gorgeous! I had been tempted to purchase it but youtuber Totalmakeupjunkie101 gave it a negative review too so I passed. I hope you get some great looks out of it still during the holidays :)

I guess the fact other people have not found it greats suggests even more so that it's possibly not the best!! Thanks for commenting x
DeleteEveryone was over excited when this was launched! It's beautiful to look at but I didn't realise it wasn't worth the hype, nor that the shadows weren't as good as expected! But a brilliant review! xxx

Thanks Jas!! Such a shame it wasn't worth it! Xxx
DeleteSuch a shame about the patchyness of the palette as I was so excited about the colour selections!

I know! Hopefully I can get more use out of it this month! X
DeleteI notice there is something a little off with the swatches but now that you explain it I have to agree with you!! Except for a few eye and one lip color this def. lack "WOW" factor!

Such a shame!!! X
DeleteWhat a shame! The shades look gorgeous. Do you wear them and swatch them over primer? I'm on the primer bandwagon for everything these days. I still haven't tried MUG, and I know I must. My favorite palettes are from Viseart, but they are incredibly expensive so a sale is a must.
ReplyDeleteYeah I tried both with and without and still found them unreliable! I love MUG too, you need to try them!!! I really want to try Viseart but it's soooo expensive!!!
DeleteThe colours are beautiful but I did see a YouTube video that showed the ingredients are the same as Morphe's which I don't rate that much and are half the price! Luckily I opted for the Anastasia Modern Renaissance, which is amazing and have lots of similar Makeup Geek shades. Thank you for an honest review of this palette!

That is so interesting, I never knew that!! I love the modern renaissance so much more! Xxx
DeleteThe colors are really pretty, but it stinks that it, well, stinks!
ReplyDeleteHaha for sure!
DeleteYes, this palette is still out of stock the last time I checked (last night). It's a shame that the packaging sounds like a let down. Here I thought the color selections look so pretty! ABH Master Palette is a winner in my book.
ReplyDeleteI really want to give that a go!
