LIFE OF A BLOGGER | HOW TO START UP YOUR OWN BLOG

Today, I thought I would dedicate my next post in the series of  'Life of a Blogger' to starting your own blog. One of the most frequently asked questions I get is how to start your own blog. I think creating a blog post solely to this subject will be the easiest instead of trying to message people back on instagram trying to explain how to create a blog. If you have asked me directly how to start a blog, you have probably been redirected by myself to here so that you can learn indepth on how to start your own blog.

STEP 1 - PICK YOUR NICHE

Before you even begin to start thinking of a name or design it is important to consider what your blog will be about. It is very important to not confuse your blog subject matter and to try and keep it very minimal. For example my blog is predominantly beauty, fashion and lifestyle. In my lifestyle post however, I have more miscellaneous topics that I don't want to interfere with the majority of my content, e.g. health and travel. My blog is roughly 70% beauty because that is what I am most passionate about however, I love including fashion posts every now and then to change it up a little. Likewise with health and diet. Make sure that you do not go off in a tangent and change your blogs subject matter every post. If you are a gamer then it is important to focus primarily on gaming. This ensures your viewers will know where they stand with what they are reading etc.

STEP 2 - PICK A PLATFORM

There are two many routes for blogging, Blogger and Wordpress. I personally use Blogger because I feel it is more user friendly and is easily operated, however I know many people who use wordpress and it works great for them. I believe wordpress involves a lot more htmling than blogger does, which will make blogging a lot more complex if you are not a computer whizz haha!! However, I would recommend both sites to anyone starting off with a blog. Besides, you can easily change platform later on if you change your mind.

STEP 3 - CREATE A NAME & DESIGN

After you have chosen your preferred blogging platform, you need to create your design and name. It is important to create a blog name that you will not mind having when you are older. It is good to have a name that is tailored to you specifically and also your blog subject matter. Your blog design should also represent you as a person. If you love colour then you should maybe include bright colours and backgrounds in your posts. On blogger, you can edit your background and designs through the layout setting.

I think it is best to start using the templates that blogger provides until you get into the swing of things. If you are good at htmling you can give that a bash by using codes to change the design and features that are on your blog.

Alternatively, after you have blogged for a while you can invest in purchasing a template. Templates can range from a couple of pounds to hundreds and even thousands of pounds.

STEP 4 - START YOUR FIRST POST

Now that you have your blog template and name, it is important to start your first post. Introduce yourself and speak about what your blog will feature etc. Or you can step right in and start a post on a topic relating to your blog.

STEP 5 - POST REGULARLY

This is important. I know that for many blogging is a hobby, but it will be very demotivating even at a hobby level not having any interaction with other people on your blog. If you do not post regularly you will have little, if any interaction, to put it bluntly.

The next post in this series will be about how to integrate your blog and increase your growth and traffic.
